As the market gets more and more service oriented, companies are getting up to the importance of the human resource. For success of any industry and company it is essential that human resource is utilized in the best possible way. This is done by a HR manager. Though the regular work of a human resource manager is to hire people matching them to the jobs they are meant for, there is much more to the job. He needs to advertise positions/vacancies, administer employee benefits, arrange for their training etc. Besides, they also assist workers to boost their morals and give training and coaching to maximize their abilities. The person who is acting in the role of human resources manager also consults with company executives in matters of budgeting and planning when it comes to hiring decisions. Human Resource Management is taught as part of the MBA curriculum at B-Schools across the country. Some colleges in the country also offer HR courses in graduation level to the commerce students .Admission into the MBA course is done on the basis of a written test, group discussion and personal interview. Separate tests are conducted by different institutes like CAT by IIMs, MAT by All India Management Association, and XAT by Xavier Institute etc. Besides, there are executive MBA (HR) programs offered by some institutes which require a minimum level of experience.
Career Prospects of HR Manager
The main task of HR/ Human resource managers is the efficient use and development of available skills and talent of the employees within the organization. Thus they are highly required in public as well as private sector organizations. HR managers are employed in fields as diverse as banking, insurance, Financial institution, software companies, all sorts of industries, corporate houses and multinational companies. Personnel manager also can aspire to be employed in services sector particularly IT companies who are dealing with huge number of employees now days. Big firms have their permanent personnel manager. But small companies hire services of Human Resources consultants.
There is a huge demand for HR Personnel in the private sector where incidentally they are paid highly. An MBA graduate with HR background gets Rs 20000 to Rs 30000 starting salary per month particularly in private sector. In public sector the pay scale is lower than that of private sector. The pay scale may go up depending upon qualifications, ability and experience of the person concerned. At a senior level, an MBA graduate with Human Resources as specialization can well go up to Rs 50000 to Rs 60000 per month. HR personnel can even start their consultancy where the returns are extremely good.
