Careers in Industrial Management
Industrial management is concerned with management of an industry and incorporates in itself all aspects concerning the industry like man, material,energy etc.The course is an aid for engineers, technicians, technical managers, production supervisors and others who want to enhance their leadership positions in the industry and allied enterprises. Industrial Management Courses lay emphasis on technical management, problem-solving and enhancement of productivity. Recent developments like globalization, liberalization and rapid industrialization of the Indian economy have resulted in setting-up of production facilities and factories across India.This has resulted in high demands for Industrial managers.
Unlike other streams of management, a post graduate programs in Industrial Management, is open to only Engineering/Technology graduates (B.E/B.Tech). For the post graduate program in Industrial Management, one must be an Engineering/Technology graduate in any branch. Students who are in their final year of Engineering/Technology degree program are also eligible to apply for the Industrial Management Courses. Some institutes select candidates for their Industrial Management courses on the basis of the Common Admission Test CAT scores. Industrial Mangers can find employment across industries like textiles , steel, power, energy, tools and machinery, automobiles etc. Professionals trained in the field of industrial management are in high demand these days both in domestic as well as foreign market. They are best suited for positions of manager in various industrial units such as textiles, steel, power, chemicals, aviation, and robotics and the like. Public sector undertakings particularly those of iron and steel are perpetually in need of industrial managers and offer lucrative salaries to them. However, private sector industries such as automobiles, heavy machinery, chemical, petroleum, electronics, electrical and engineering goods are more favored destination for industrial managers. Nevertheless industrial managers also can work independently as industrial-cum-managerial consultant for providing valuable consultancy to varieties of industries.
Industrial management is a hot career option. A fresh pass out can expect Rs 25,000 to 40,000 as initial pay packages which only goes up with experience. In public sector pay packages are relatively lower than what private industries offer. Experienced and talented people can easily make it to the top.
